Looking for a Mac developer to build a meeting Notetaker into Retrace with me

Posted by Oscar L. · Location-independent

I'm a QA/SDET in Davis, CA, and I'm building Retrace, a Mac app that records your screen in the background and writes a plain-language summary of your day. It's in beta (0.5.0, 972 automated tests passing) and I use it every day. The next piece I want to build is "Notetaker": Retrace sees a meeting start on your calendar, records it with one click, makes an on-device transcript, and writes a short overview with decisions and action items. Notes stay on your Mac and are searchable next to your day summary. It could also import past notes from Granola or Otter. I'm looking for one or two people to build this with me: - A Swift/macOS developer, especially if you've worked with audio capture or on-device speech-to-text - Someone who has shipped a paid Mac app and can help with signing, payments and pricing - Mac users who want to beta test and give honest feedback What I bring: a working app and codebase, a big test suite, careful QA, and a clear plan toward a public beta in February. Privacy is built in from day one: a visible recording indicator, consent reminders, and local-first storage. Open to a revenue share, a skill swap, or simply building something useful together.

Why I’m posting this

I'd love a teammate to help turn Retrace into a Mac app people pay for, starting with meeting notes.

The local-first approach could be your strongest differentiator. A lot of people would like automatic meeting notes but aren't comfortable sending confidential conversations to cloud services. Have you considered targeting lawyers, consultants or other professionals who regularly handle sensitive information? One feature I'd find useful is being able to trace a decision back to the exact point in the meeting where it was made, while keeping everything on the user's Mac. That could be more compelling than another general AI meeting summary.
