Product idea for protecting trees from deer during the winter
Posted by FoxtrotUX · Location-independent
I have an idea for a product during the winter months- specifically for homeowners of trees that get eaten by deer. I've seen tree covers that act like bags, but you have to cover the entire tree from top to bottom. My idea was something that would over cover the tree from about 6 feet up to ground level. This would make it inaccessible to the deer, but easier for people to set up. My idea was something like a skirt that could wrap around the tree with an elastic band so it hugs the tree and wont fall. Then the sides would either secure with buttons or a zipper, or maybe even a really strong velcro. I have the idea, I just need someone to collaborate with to make a prototype and test.

I want to create a functional prototype for a product that would protect trees from deer during winter months.

Alongside someone who can sew the prototype, a nursery could be a valuable testing partner. You could compare two closures on similar trees and record installation time, wind damage and whether deer still reach the foliage. The nursery gets a say in a product it might eventually sell; you get practical feedback before making a batch.
