I love this post!! Always thought our phones measure so much more than we ever use! Some crazy uses there for sure, maybe partner with some app developers?
For livestock, could have some collars that will give the data to the owner on their animals (if they are not moving, limping, laying down a lot?) - can be very useful info?
I am totally not good at physics but can this be used in mapping contaminated land from the air? If so - demining (I am in Ukraine) is a very well funded and needed field!
Thank you, these are great. The demining one fits closely. Drone surveys for buried metal fly a magnetometer, and the hard part is exactly sensor fusion: GNSS + IMU tie every reading to the right spot on the ground and correct for the drone's tilt and its own magnetic noise. Without that the map is blurry and you get false alarms. Magnetometers and GNSS/IMU fusion are what I've worked with.
The livestock collar is a good one too: an accelerometer and gyro can tell walking, lying and limping apart on a low-power chip.
If you know a team working on aerial survey or demining in Ukraine, I'd be glad to talk. Open to a paid pilot or a collaboration.
